Should the United States help Ukraine against Russia?

America and Russia agreed to always respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine within it’s 1994 borders. This agreement was flagrantly broken in 2014 when Russia first annexed Crimea, then started a war in the Donbass. Ukraine would NEVER have been invaded if it still was a nuclear power, therefore it is due to Bill Clinton’s decision to “de-nuke” Ukraine that this war was even able to start in the first place. America owes Ukraine the safety it promised in 1994.

An American president by the name of Bill Clinton signed the 1994 Budapest Memorandum. In it, Bill Clinton, then-Russian president Boris Yeltsin and Ukrainian president Leonid Kravchuk agreed that Ukraine would surrender all it’s nuclear weapons.

And Ukraine did exactly this — it surrenders it’s nuclear arsenal in it’s entirety. Also included in the memorandum were Kazakhstan and Belarus. Now as we all know, Belarus would soon become a Russian puppet state, led by Putin ally Lukashenko. Ukraine, too, fell under Russia’s sphere of influence, but managed to free itself from Moscow’s grasp in 2014… now here’s the thing about nukes, they are a deterrent. The most powerful deterrent in the world. So Kravchuk sought security guarantees from the Americans when he gave up his nuclear arsenal.

Why is Jack Smith arguing that presidents should not have full immunities as Trump is requesting?
